A fantastic course and great weather for the last Dirty Clean of 2022. The expressions on peoples faces sums up the pleasure and pain 🙂 A huge thanks to our partners for all the great prizes. We hope to announce next year’s calendar in December along with this season’s winners. We look forward to seeing many new faces and old legs again for 2023.

2022BOE Beast of the East

A weekend of Clean Rides around Wildhomestay, in Anhui, China.
Date: November 12th 2022, 8am.
Type: Clean – Road bike. 168km 3000m

This challenge loops around the south of our area taking in the fantastic Qianniugang / Daming Mountain South Ascent. The Ascent is 1100m + making it one of the longest uninterrupted climbs in the region. It winds its way along streams, through bamboo forests, tea plantations, rice terraces, the odd village and up to the top of the satellite station on the top of the mountain. Its described as “a world-class truly epic climb” and we concur :)!

Daming Climb!

These “clean” riding challenges are small scale, half competitive and half social! Clean Challenges take place on tarmac and concrete roads mostly of good quality. Expect a few rough areas and for your comfort, we suggest 28 tires or larger. There will be timed stages that make for a safer and more social but still highly competitive and fun day out. Support and rest points provided en route. Events will be delayed if terrible weather or changes to the current covid situation make it unsafe to hold the event.

Segments

Final segments will be posted to the wechat group before the ride so you can star them. They are also provided in the GPX / Fit / GPS files.

Warming up

370m elevation over 8.6Km. 4% average gradient.

A gentle mid-length climb to get the legs warmed up. Note that vans will not park at the finish this time! Ride on through the village until you get to a large car park on the left.

Curly mullet

175m elevation gain over 5.2km. 3.4% average gradient.

Relaxed little climb that gets progressively less relaxed. Finishes just before the start of the next segment, so be sure to take a breather.

里畈 to top

Just under 1100m elevation gain over 25km. 4.3% average gradient.

Hors categorie-type fun. This is the big one- a long climb through walnut orchards to the very top of “Damingshan”.

JR’s pain cave

150m elevation gain over 2km. 7.6% average gradient, 20% max.

In case you thought a 25km climb wasn’t challenging, we’ve added a segment within a segment. “JR’s pain cave” is a short, sharp climb starting at the end of the last village on the back route up Damingshan and finishing at the junction with the main route.

Noodle stop to Anhui

500m elevation gain over 11.5km. Rolling terrain.

From the Damingshan turnoff to the arch at the Zhejiang/Anhui border. Flat enough for drafting and team tactics. Occasionally, anyway.

We might add another local segment and adjust others closer to time depending on the ground conditions.

Partners

Many thanks to our great partners for supporting this event and the prizes!
