Are you Dirty or Dirty Ultra??? Choose the Dirty if you are a newer less experienced or less regular rider. Choose the Dirty Ultra if you’re very bike fit and experienced! No E or motorbike but otherwise any bike is fine! We suggest bikes with a gravel type tire. GPS files, segment information and race briefing will be provided a few days before the event!
Itinerary
Friday:
2.30h by train. Direct and non-direct train options and the station is 10 minutes from Wildhomestay. 4h Drive from Shanghai or 2h from Hangzhou.
8pm Briefing for new riders. We will also try and stream it as well.
Saturday:
6 am Breakfast

2023 Dirty | Challenge #1
(Shorter Distance)
Our Dirty Challenges are designed as tough but manageable rides for cyclists who want to gain some experience on different surfaces, on and off road. They are suitable for riders with basic cycling skills who can ride 50km. Some sections are steep and off-road so you might be better off pushing your bike on these sections if the going gets too tough for you. You can complete these segment-based challenges on a mountain bike, plus road bike or gravel bike. Learn more on how we make these Challenges as new rider friendly as possible and our pre-challenge bike and rider checks in Shanghai.
Dirty 2023 #1 Basic Info
- Distance: about 50km
- Elevation: 1000 or less of Elevation Gain
- Segments: 3 to 4 segments mostly on climbs but some on flatter surfaces. A mixture of surfaces.
- Climbs: 1 smallish uphill climb and 1 small decent
- Steepness: 3 out of 5 in steepness scale. You might need to push some small sections.
- Toughness: 2 out of 5 in toughness scale. Suitable for basic fitness and skills.
- Bike Type: A gravel bike, large tire road bike, or mountain bike.
- Gear Type: Suggest gravel tires for speed and control on road and off road.32c + gravel tires recommended. Mixed road / off road. Lots of gears makes for a funner day – 1 to1 gear ratio or more. Also suggest disk brakes, fresh tires and fresh brake pads.
- Support: 3 food & drink stops / support stops. After Challenge carbs. Sweeper rider to support. Slow, Medium & Faster Pace groups to Support.
Course Notes: The course takes place south of the homestay over various short climbs not too far from Sanyang town. We will double-check the exact course conditions a week or so before the event. A WeChat group will be set up for this challenge and we issue GPX / Maps / Route / Strava segments to that and during race briefings. 2023 Dirty Ultra | Black Cork
(High Fitness / Skill)
Suitable for experienced riders who are very happy doing 150km in the hills. They take place on a mixture of challenging tarmac and concrete roads with sections of off-road, trails, stream and might include a short hike. They are stunningly tough and best done on a gravel bike but participants have also completed them on mountain bikes and road bikes with gravel tires.

- Support: 3 food & drink stops / support stops. After Challenge carbs. If you’re unable to get around the course we can arrange van pickup at extra cost.

Need to rent a great Specialized Diverge adventure bike for the Dirty or Dirty Ultra Challenge?
Please understand these rides are not professional races but small scale amateur cycling challenges. To maximize social fun and safety points are given for various challenging segments. The rest of the day is meant to be spent riding and chatting in groups. Cool refreshments provided on-route along with a few fun awards. Please be realistic, these are not aimed at the beginner and are demanding, in amazing but challenging landscapes.

2023 Dirty Queen & King Award
The female and male with the highest number of points of the combined 2023 Dirty and Dirty Ultra Challenges will each receive a pair of top end S Works Recon Shoes, a customized jersey and their names carved on our winner’s board and placed in the cafe. Prizes will be presented in December.
